Welcome to Grey Gables Inn (Closed Permanently)
Grey Gables Inn, situated at 353 MacKay St in Pembroke, Ontario, once stood as a beacon of historic charm and refined comfort. Although now closed permanently, this inn left a lasting impression on all who experienced its blend of old-world elegance and modern amenities. Housed in a meticulously restored 1911 mansion, Grey Gables Inn offered guests a rare opportunity to step back in time without sacrificing contemporary convenience.
Guests frequently praised the inn's intimate atmosphere, with only seven individually styled rooms that echoed the architectural grace of the early 20th century. The “Majestic” and “Kensington” rooms, for example, presented a seamless fusion of tasteful decor and thoughtful features such as in-room coffee machines, refrigerators with small freezers, and impeccably maintained bathrooms. Each bed promised an indulgently restful night, wrapped in cozy linens and quiet sophistication.
Customer testimonials speak volumes about the inn's dedication to personalized service and warm hospitality. Lynn, a standout host, was noted for her kindness and attentiveness, enhancing the guest experience with a gentle yet professional touch. The inn also earned accolades for its culinary offerings—even though breakfast was not included in the stay, guests agreed that the food was well worth the investment, reflecting passion and skill in every dish. Celebrations such as fifty-year wedding anniversaries found a perfect venue in Grey Gables’ renovated Oak Room, where friendly staff and exquisite cuisine created memorable milestones.
Beyond the lodging, Grey Gables offered an authentic Pembroke experience, positioned just a short walk from the downtown waterfront park and close to local cultural treasures like the Champlain Trail Museum and Pioneer Village. Its peaceful setting off Highway 41 invited travelers seeking a serene escape paired with easy access to regional attractions.
Though it did not feature amenities like a pool, fitness center, or airport shuttle, Grey Gables compensated with free Wi-Fi, ample parking, air conditioning, and smoke-free premises. The absence of pets preserved a tranquil environment, ideal for guests prioritizing rest and relaxation.
Grey Gables Inn was more than a place to stay; it was a sanctuary of nostalgia and comfort, a rare blend of history and hospitality crafted with care. Its closure marks the end of a cherished chapter in Pembroke’s hospitality landscape, yet the stories and experiences it fostered continue to resonate with those who treasured its unique charm.

On our way from Montreal to North Bay we decided to stay at this wonderful inn. Lynn was super helpful and sweet for the duration of our stay and the room was exactly as advertised (we stayed in the Majestic). The bathroom was beautiful and everything was clean and comfy. Well kitted out and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfast isn’t included but what you pay for is really great value! We look forward to staying here again soon!
We recently celebrated our Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary in the newly renovated Oak Room at the Grey Gables Inn. What a pleasant experience. The staff were friendly and attentive to all our needs. Our compliments to the chef as well, the food was delicious. A Five Star experience.
The Grey Gable Inn is an historic inn just blocks away from Pembroke's downtown. Its luxury rooms were elegantly designed with modern amenities, providing a comfortable and indulgent stay. The room I stayed in —Kensington— had a coffee machine and a refrigerator that housed a small freezer. The decoration was very tasteful, while it retains the charm of an old house, it is updated and provides a comfortable stay. There is a diner housed in the Inn. Meals are available for purchase Overall, the luxurious rooms and the picturesque garden are delightful. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique and memorable accommodation experience."
Giant house converted into a small hotel (7 rooms I believe) as you would hope for in a place like this the decor and service feels like it is from another time. While it is more expensive than the generic hotels in the area, it makes up for it in old world style.
